Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish delivered gushing praise to his side after their Carling Cup semi-final victory.

A 2-2 draw with Manchester City at Anfield last night was enough to see the Reds through to the Wembley tie at the end of February.

It is the first time Liverpool have been in a Wembley cup final since 1996 and Dalglish couldn’t speak highly enough of his players after the match.

“The players were magnificent,” he said at the post-match press conference.

“Everything we thought was lacking on Saturday was there in abundance tonight, so they deserve great credit for the performance and result.”

The Kop saluted the team after they cam back from losing positions twice; first a Steven Gerrard penalty cancelled out a Nigel de Jong effort and Craig Bellamy’s slick move and finish levelled the game and put Liverpool through after Edin Dzeko had struck for the visitors.

Dalglish was also keen to recognise some of the players who had played in the previous rounds, but were not on the pitch yesterday.

"I think there is only Fabio (Aurelio) and Doni in the squad who hasn't played in this competition.

“So every single member of the squad apart from the two lads has made a contribution and I think that is a great reflection of the players we have at the club.

“A lot of them who got us in this position maybe didn't play tonight, but their efforts and commitment won't be dismissed easily.”

The Wembley final will see the Reds go up against Cardiff City, who defeated fellow Championship side Crystal Palace on penalties in the other semi-final.

The final will take place on Sunday, February 26 at 4pm.
